Trusting in God: Angela’s Story

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV)

When I read over the testimonies received from our donor family, I am often touched and encouraged by the messages of hope and healing I find as people turn to God in His Word by reading Bible verses like Jeremiah 29:11.

Angela’s story is one such story. She sent this to us several years ago, but I believe we find her words echoing so true today in our hearts, as a person who gained strength from His Word throughout difficult circumstances:

“A few years ago, I went through a very difficult time. After experiencing difficulty walking and suffering from episodes of blurred vision, great fatigue and pain in my arm that kept me from sleeping, I was told by a doctor that I was suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. I was overwhelmed by the news, and soon, I was forced to stop working. I couldn’t understand why my world seemed to be falling apart… after all, I was a believer, my work, my dreams… I felt that God did not love me.

One evening, I was invited to attend a special meeting at a church in Montreal, where I heard a message about the death of Lazarus from John 11. In the Bible, it is written that Jesus loved Lazarus, that he loved Lazarus’ family and that Lazarus was his friend. Yet he still allowed Lazarus’ misfortune – death...

The pastor kept repeating, Jesus loved Lazarus, Jesus loved Lazarus... The pastor's words deeply touched my heart and I started crying uncontrollably. That’s when I realized that Jesus loved me that night, and God healed my heart.

This is not all that God has done for me. Today, my health has greatly improved.  I can run, I have more energy, and have completely recovered the use of my eyes! I have even returned to work and received a promotion – and here I was a woman who thought I was about to lose everything!

Today, I am grateful to God for all He has done for me. This is why prayer and Bible reading occupy a very important place in my life. When turning to God in prayer and reading Bible verses like Jeremiah 29:11, I find strength, peace, joy and hope!”

Angela’s story reminds us about the importance of focussing on the Lord in gaining perseverance and strength through times of trial. I know though trying circumstances, I have learned to rely on His promises and I trust that is the same for you. I pray that we can all learn from Angela’s story and like Jeremiah, rely on the Lord’s promises for our hope and our future.
