Biography

Matthew Maniate was born to Christian parents in Kerala, India. At the age of six, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour through a visiting evangelist who stayed at their home. After completing university, he went to Bombay to work as an accountant with Inter-Mission Business Office, a Christian organization. He also volunteered with the Bible Society of India, assisting in the distribution of Bibles.

In January 1972, Matthew began his theological studies at Denver Baptist Bible College and Seminary in Colorado. After completing his studies, he immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, and became an active member of Grace Chapel Assembly where he served the Lord in many capacities: Sunday School teacher, deacon, chair of the Deacons’ Board and, for 32 years, as one of the elders. He also served on the Board of Faith Bible Camp, and the Manitoba District of the Canadian Bible Society.

Matthew also worked for the City of Winnipeg, the Province of Manitoba, and several Federal Government Departments such as Revenue Canada, Transport Canada, Nav Canada, HRDC Canada, Citizenship & Immigration Canada and Health Canada. Matthew took early retirement in 2007, but in January 2008, he joined Child Evangelism Fellowship of Manitoba as the Provincial Director. In May 2015, Matthew finally retired from his professional life. He continues to serve on the Board of Governors of the Canadian Bible Society.

Matthew is married to Susan. They are blessed with two children – a son and daughter – and four grandchildren.
