Ontario - Central

History

For most of its long and distinguished history, this District was called the Upper Canada Bible Society. For many years it was the dominant Bible Society in Canada, responsible for practically all Bible Society work in Canada from the Quebec border to the Pacific. It was instrumental in the formation of other Auxillaries. In 1960 it changed its name to Canadian Bible Society, Upper Canada District. With the formation of new Districts with offices in Hamilton, North Bay, and Peterborough in 1962, its territory was considerably reduced. In 1981 the name was changed again, this time to Canadian Bible Society, Central Ontario District.

Geography

The Central Ontario District covers the area as far north as Owen Sound, Bracebridge, and communities south of Algonquin Park over to Bancroft; and in the south from Mississauga to Trenton, and all places in between, including the Greater Toronto Area. Our responsibility list consists of approximately 3000 churches.
