Bible reading, a part of summer camp activities

The Canadian Bible Society provided the Adventure for Life Bibles for Christian camps this summer. We are delighted to hear encouraging feedback from some of the camps. One partner wrote:

Around 70 Bibles from the Canadian Bible Society were distributed to campers during our two weeks of Kids’ Camp (ages 6-11) and Teen Camp (ages 11-14). While in previous years Bibles were given as going-home gifts at the end of the week, this time the Bibles were gifted at the beginning of the week so that they could be used in chapel, cabin devotions, and free time. What a blessing it was to see campers walking back and forth from their cabins to the chapel with Bibles in hand!

The campers were invited to highlight passages, underline verses, and write notes in the margins in order to remind them of what they had learned at camp once they’ve returned home. During both weeks the counselors witnessed their campers reading the Bible during their free time and asking questions about what they had read during cabin discussions. At Kids’ Camp the counselors helped the campers to familiarize themselves with their Bibles by running Bible reference drills and encouraging them to read the books of John and Acts before returning to camp again next year. The campers at Teen Camp were encouraged to read as much of the Bible as they could, beginning with the Synoptic Gospels and letters from the apostles, followed by the Old Testament books to understand the context for Jesus Christ. The counselors of Teen Week noticed that many of the campers had already gotten a head start on their between-camp homework and were almost finished reading the book of John together. One of the campers asked everyone to sign his Bible as a keepsake for his time spent at camp.

It was heartwarming to see that some of the returning teen campers had brought back their Bibles from a previous year and had used them well during the years between camps. We hope to see more of this repeated in the following camp seasons to come.

Thank you, Canadian Bible Society, for the gift of God’s Holy Word given to our campers. Its compact size and easy-to-read translation were perfect for the children who received these Bibles. We pray that our campers will cherish these Bibles and use them to study and learn more about their Christian faith.
