Partnership in Focus: Toronto City Mission’s Role Model Moms

It’s not easy being a mother. And to be a mom and a student at the same time is doubly challenging.  That is why we rejoice with mothers who work so hard to complete their education.

Recently, the Canadian Bible Society (CBS) was invited to the graduation ceremony of Toronto City Mission’s (TCM) Role Model Moms program. This program aims to equip moms who are at least 18 years old and have not completed their high school education with the academic knowledge, confidence, and life skills necessary to successfully pass the high school equivalency exam regulated by the government of Ontario.

CBS representative, Tanya Prinsep, who was at the ceremony to present Bibles to the graduates, shared, “I have to admit that I had tears of delight and joy as these young women received their GED diplomas and shared some of the struggles they overcame to complete the program.”

TCM not only helps provide education, it also provides support to moms – most of them single moms – by offering free babysitting services, mentoring and spiritual encouragement. In St James Town, a group of women meet together for Bible study.

“TCM is doing such incredible, practical ministry,” Tanya said. “It is wonderful that we can encourage them by providing the resources to use throughout the program and to be able to congratulate these ladies with a graduation gift of a Bible.”
