The book about the history of CBS, “To the Ends of the Earth”, relates the beginnings of Bible Society work in Quebec:

“In 1804, the same year the British and Foreign Bible Society was founded in London, England, a Branch of the Bible Society was organized in Quebec. But it was short-lived and there is no record of its being associated with the Parent Society. The year 1813 saw the organization of the Quebec Auxiliary of the British and Foreign Bible Society. From then on, the Bible House in Quebec City played an important part in the work. The Montreal Auxiliary from its beginning in 1820 showed a keen interest in reaching the French by employing colporteurs.”
