Sophie : Loved by God
“Could a mother forget a child who nurses at her breast? Could she fail to love an infant who came from her own body? Even if a mother could forget, I will never forget you!” Isaiah 49:15 (CEV)
Sophie learned at a young age to pray on God’s promises and to memorize Bible verses that helped her keep the faith through the storm. Life hasn’t always been easy for her. Abandoned by her mother at the age of 5, she spent most of her childhood and adolescence with misunderstandings and a sense of injustice – despite the unconditional love shown by her father and the great example of faith he was for Sophie and her sister.
“I kept asking myself: ‘who cares about me and why this unjust suffering?”. Affected by the pain of abandonment, she often refused to practice what she read in the Bible, but deep down she knew that “the Word of God contains reliable values and is an anchor that holds us firmly attached to Him”.
It was around the age of 17, after years of ambivalence between doubt and trust, that Sophie realized she had a Heavenly Father who wanted to fill the void in her heart and she could trust Him. Today, she confesses (based on the text of Romans 15.4) that “it is reassuring to know that one can believe the promises of God, for they are real and make us victorious!”
“And the Scriptures were written to teach and encourage us by giving us hope.” Romans 15:4 (CEV)
