Canadian Bible Society Takes Aim At Reversing Grim Bible Engagement Study Results
TORONTO (May 29, 2014) – Earlier this spring, a group of nine Canadian Bible agencies together with the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, partnered to undertake the Canadian Bible Engagement Study. With the study results revealing concerning trends in Bible reading and engagement, the Canadian Bible Society has chosen to launch a series of national initiatives with the goal of resourcing churches in effectively reaching their neighbourhoods with the Bible. The first initiative, The Gift. For Life, launches across Canada on May 28, 2014.
The Gift. For Life is a Christmas resource created specifically for the church. With a distinct, contemporary visual style, the kit presents churches with a new, high-value, low-cost opportunity to connect with their communities—providing the church with the perfect gift to invite people to explore the real meaning of the Christmas message.
For Christmas season 2014, the Canadian Bible Society is equipping local churches to distribute over 20,000 beautifully-designed kits to homes across Canada. Church resources to help encourage Bible engagement will be available at thegiftforlife.ca. Each physical kit for distribution will include:
- The Gift. For Life Complete New Testament, NLT Version
- Pamphlet-sized Scripture selections on joy, hope and love
- A card offering a free full Bible from the Canadian Bible Society
- An attractive door-hanger bag
- A customizable, downloadable invitation to a Christmas service or other event at the distributing church
- Kids Christmas pamphlet “The Happy Birthday”
“We are convinced that the Word is God’s gift to us, for life. With the recent Canadian study confirming dismal and declining Bible reading trends, we are more committed than ever to partner with churches to share and engage the Bible. We believe that the joy, peace, hope and love found in the pages of Scripture are what people need to find, not just at Christmas, but all year round” said Rev. Ted Seres, CBS’s National Director.
For more than 100 years, the Canadian Bible Society has promoted Bible translation, publication, distribution and engagement. It distributes Scripture resources in more than 100 languages in Canada and together with 146 national Bible societies worldwide, has distributed over 380 million Scriptures last year. People’s lives are transformed as they read the Word of God for themselves, in their own language. For more information please visit, www.biblesociety.ca
