Canadian Bible Society to provide 240 Bibles in 24 hours to churches in Cuba
Toronto, ON — Giving Tuesday is a Canadian movement for giving and volunteering which takes place after two major commercial events: Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This is the day when charities, companies and individuals join together to focus on giving.
For Giving Tuesday, the Canadian Bible Society (CBS) will invest proceeds to the Cuba Million Bible Mission.
In the last two decades, God has been blessing Cuba’s churches with unprecedented growth. A recent report states, “The Catholic Church now has more than a million active members, and the number of Protestant Christians has increased threefold over the past decade to at least 900,000. Total, that’s around 20% of the 11 million people in Cuba—and rising.”
With the increase of believers comes the challenge of providing Bibles, an essential tool for their spiritual growth. A Canadian Bible Society representative saw first-hand the great need for Bibles during a visit to churches in Cuba in 2014. For example, at a church of 125 believers, they share only six copies of the Bible among themselves. In some cases, the Bibles are so worn that pages are falling apart. From church to church, their cry is consistent: “We need Bibles!”
CBS will raise a total of $1200 towards the Cuba Million Bible Mission; that’s 10 Bibles every hour within 24 hours.
CBS has committed to raising $500K over a five year period for the Cuba Million Bible Mission project. From the time CBS made the commitment in 2014 to date, CBS has raised over $198,000 towards this goal.
