Bibles for Immigrants
Working in: Canada and Costa Rica
Canada welcomes an average of 250,000 immigrants every year and Costa Rica, which is now becoming a magnet for migrants in Central America, receives about 54,000 annually.
The majority of those who leave their country do so for economic reasons. But when they settle in one country, they are faced with many challenges such as homesickness, cultural adjustments and, sometimes, discrimination and abuse.
This year, the Canadian Bible Society is working together with the Bible Society in Costa Rica to provide immigrants with the much-needed message of hope, peace and strength from God’s Word. This program also partners with churches that reach out to migrant workers , and establish communities that make them feel more at home and provide training to help them integrate into their new society more easily. By providing them with a safe community that they can turn to for advice and information, immigrants are much less likely to be taken advantage of by abusive employers. And the Scriptures they receive provide encouragement, comfort and hope.
