A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck northwestern Colombia on the morning of August 10. The quake was recorded in San José del Palmar in the Chocó region.

Diana Leal, Executive Director of the Colombian Bible Society, wrote: “Thank God, everyone at SBC is fine, but several cities have been affected. Thank you for your prayers.”

President Abelardo de la Espriella declared a national disaster after the earthquake was classified as the strongest in the last decade. De la Espriella officially took office on August 7, facing his first major challenge in Colombia.

• Pray for the team at the Colombian Bible Society and their families, asking for God’s protection over their lives as they continue their ministry despite adversity.
• Pray for the families who have suffered the loss of loved ones, that God may comfort them in the midst of their grief.
• Pray for those who are injured or missing, that they may receive the help they need.
• Pray for the churches, that they may continue to be strengthened in their work of supporting families who need to be reminded of their hope in God and His faithful love in the midst of their grief.

The United Bible Societies in Venezuela (UBSV) team has been reported safe after two powerful earthquakes struck northern Venezuela on the evening of June 24, causing widespread damage, collapsed buildings, and urgent rescue efforts across parts of the country. The disaster has triggered a rapidly developing national emergency, with widespread destruction, and an exhaustive rescue effort is underway.
