Advent Journey
Week 2: Transcending Troubles: Finding True Peace in Jesus
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)
I grew up in a household that valued order and detailed execution. Every task, when planned, was executed to immaculate detail. This quality has served me well in my career. However, it also brought with it the pitfalls of anxiety and stress in the pursuit of perfection. From the moment I woke up until I went to bed, I was constantly too busy to catch my breath. Then one day, when peace was long gone, a thought came to me: “Is this how I am going to live the rest of my life?” Vanity filled my heart, and I knew something had to change. I was relying on my own strength and talent, and my tank was running low.
I remembered Jesus’ conversation with Martha. “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed – or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41-42)
Jesus was right and he wants us – our whole heart, our undivided attention. When I prioritized spending intentional time with Jesus, my life became so much richer, more fulfilling, and full of peace that transcended all human logic. What is more, I was also able to make better decisions in life and at work. I felt more centered in life because I knew who holds the future.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27) There are many problems that demand our attention and make our hearts sick. Our health, our finances, our family, our work and the news of conflicts between nations all try to rob us of our peace. This Advent, I encourage you to seek a closer relationship with Jesus and to experience the peace that only He can bring through our reconciliation with our Creator.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before you, seeking comfort and connection as we navigate the rush of daily responsibilities. Help us find moments of pause to hear your whisper and rediscover the desires you’ve planted within us. Lord, help us to remember that our hope is in you and in your Word, where true fulfillment is found.
Reflection:
Take a purposeful moment each day to step away from the daily grind of life. Set aside time for reflection and prayer, allowing the Holy Spirit to illuminate the desires God has planted in your heart. Consider journaling your thoughts and reflections to deepen your understanding of the desires God has for you.
