Lent Devotional | Palm Sunday
Trusting God’s Plan in Triumph and Trial

The scene on Palm Sunday was filled with excitement and hope, as the people welcomed Jesus as their King. However, such expectations were shaped by their earthly desires. Why? They sought a political saviour who would free them from the trials of Roman oppression. For all that Jesus did in their presence, to bring a far greater salvation: they were fixated on their earthly human plight for rescue.
I too am challenged to examine my own motives; do I welcome Jesus with genuine belief, or do I approach Him with conditional expectations? The same crowds who shouted “Hosanna!” would cry “Crucify Him!” five days later, in disappointment. It’s a sobering reminder of how easily our faith can waver when we face trials.
Palm branches represent victory and triumph, and the event underscores the paradox of royalty, as Jesus chooses to enter Jerusalem on a humble donkey, versus a majestic horse. Jesus’ theme of humility and service urges the credential for ultimate victory that will soon introduce another grand entry. Have you allowed Him entry into your heart? Once you do, He’ll turn your Trial into a Triumph.
Palm Sunday invites us to renew our commitment to Christ as the sacrificial King, whose Kingdom is not of this world, but one of peace, love and grace. As we wave our “palms” in worship, let us lay down our selfish ambitions at His feet. May we thus prepare our hearts for the days ahead, walking with Him through the shadows of the cross and the dawn of His resurrection power. As I reflect, I’m reminded that Christ’s victory was won not through earthly power, but through His humble obedience to the Father’s will. Hosanna in the highest!
