Mel and Susan (Sue) Finlay were recently honoured with a special award recognizing the difference they have made through their longstanding contribution to prayer in Canada’s public life. The award was presented at the National Leadership Dinner, held on March 23, 2026, at the Rogers Centre in Ottawa, which precedes the annual National Prayer Breakfast.

The recognition was announced and presented by Richard Bragdon, MP, Chair of the National Prayer Breakfast, and acknowledged Mel and Sue’s role in fostering prayer among elected representatives across party lines and in a non partisan spirit. Their work has helped create spaces where leaders from different political perspectives can come together in humility, reflection, and prayer as they serve the country.

The Leadership Dinner is part of the broader National Prayer Breakfast gathering, which culminated the following morning with the 60th National Prayer Breakfast on March 24, 2026, also held at the Rogers Centre. The Prayer Breakfast is convened under the authority of the Speakers of the Senate and the House of Commons, on behalf of the Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast Group, and brings together political leaders, faith leaders, and Canadians from across the country.

Mel and Sue are the founders of Nation at Prayer, a ministry dedicated to praying with and for elected representatives and Indigenous leaders at every level of government. Their work continues to unite leaders beyond political divisions, grounded in prayer and a shared desire for wisdom and peace in public life.

Mel Finlay also serves as Board Chair of the Canadian Bible Society, supporting the mission of helping people hear God speak through Scripture.
