Last year, the Canadian Bible Society provided over half a million Scriptures in 77 languages to Canadians and those new to Canada.
Moving from one’s home country to another comes with its own set of challenges. It’s even more difficult when people are forced to flee due to extreme and devastating situations such as war. When these life-changing experiences leave people vulnerable, CBS reaches out to them with the hope of God’s Word – in their heart language.
In partnership with Youth For Christ, Comox Valley, the Canadian Bible Society provided Ukrainian-language Bible resources to meet the spiritual needs of the Ukrainian newcomers. Several Ukrainian families, displaced by the war in Ukraine, received the gift of hope and peace through God’s Word this past Christmas.
Youth For Christ (YFC) Executive Director Robbie Taylor worked with the Canadian Bible Society (CBS) to provide Bibles and children’s Bible workbooks for these families. Expressing his heartfelt gratitude for the partnership with the Canadian Bible Society, he said; “Over the past 18 months, more than 70 Ukrainian families have fled their homeland and sought safety in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, BC. Many Comox Valley churches and other charitable groups have come together to assist these Ukrainian families with food security programs, housing, transportation, and access to English classes.”
These materials were distributed to the families during various food security programs.
The CBS Bibles and workbooks are in Ukrainian, so before distributing these items, YFC sought the input of the local Ukrainian Cultural Society to ensure that these books would be appropriate for use by the Ukrainian friends. YFC reported that they received a unanimous “thumbs up”.
